Spring 2017 Trends And Predictions

With Spring literally just arriving, I’m eager to see what the trends will be for this season. I’m praying and hoping we ditch the matte lip, foundation and heavy brows and move on from the perfected Kylie Jenner-esque look.

Here are my predictions for the start to a fresher makeup look for Spring 2017.

Glitter

Glitter is definitely here to stay. With many brands focusing on shimmer and shine, you’re bound to finish off you look with a pigmented shimmer or glitter. Look for more rose, peach, bronze and pale golds with glitters. If you’re looking for a fresher look, opt for pale pinks, baby blues, and teals for an even brighter eye catching look.

Don’t be limited to just on the eyes, glitter can go everywhere imaginable. Try a catwalk favourite by wearing it on the lip with a clear gloss or topcoat, the meme of piling it to hide under eyes (it does actually brighten and draw attention to your peepers!) or just dusting it on your cheek bones and hair for a playful look.

Freckles

It’s been a growing trend with people even taking it to a more permanent step of getting them tattoo’d on, freckles and beauty marks are definitely the sign of beauty, so if you got it, flaunt it. It brings me on to a future point of showing what you naturally have off and leaving everything glow, freckles and texture is going to be very important this season. Especially after being covered with full coverage foundations and concealers for the past two seasons, your skin will be thankful to see some sunlight!

Pastels and muted tones

Like I’ve said, fresh is everything this season. So think brighter bursts of colour, peaches to brighten, duck egg blues to lift and illuminate and off whites to give a twist to harsh highlights. Try light oranges and pastel reds instead of berry colours, and taupes or muted browns to contour and even the eye tone out before adding that twist of colour. Alternatively try pastel liners teamed up with a brown for a softer look, and can help soften up a brighter bolder look once blended together.

Skincare

Before you even think of doing your makeup, your skincare should always come first. Adding even a simple moisturiser or eye cream to your routine will make the world of difference. Getting your base ready and quenched can make your makeup last longer and feel better. Everyone needs moisturiser, oily need it to suppress oil, dry need it to quench the skin, normal need it to balance and restore any moisture that could be lost and combination need it to also balance the skin. Taking off your makeup is key to healthy skin. It clears it of the days impurities, helps renew skin cells and you can pack it full of anti ageing skin loving ingredients, depending on what you put on it.

A mini guide on ingredients will be in an upcoming post.

Lip Tints

Ditch the matte lip and nourish your lips with balms, tints, and subtle bitten berry colours. After heavy makeup and drying liquid to matte lipsticks it’s time to let your lips breathe and bring your natural lip colour through by enhancing it with lip tints. These are usually long wear and waterproof and contain a stain that lasts around 6 hours on the lips, depending on what you eat. I’d love to really see blurred out colours, orange tints and subtle corals make a come back this season. They can brighten and illuminate any complexion!

Bring on the dew

Heading more into summer, I predict we will see less matte, more dewy glows. Less blinding highlights and all about the natural sun kissed glow with a fresh faced base. Tinted moisturisers and CC creams infused with colour corrector will definitely be a must have this season. Start by boosting your skincare routine by updating and changing products to give your skin a surge, and introduce more natural complexion products into your daily products to encourage your natural skin to shine and, most importantly, breathe again after harsh winter weather and matte full coverage looks. Also try finishing sprays to change the texture of your overall finished look. Products like MAC Fix+ will alter powdery finishes and boost hydration, and Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist will also give you the same results.

  1. Cool post, I particularly liked the bit about skincare and how it should be the first thing to think about before adding makeup.
